Devlog #32
Good evening!
This week has been the first one that actually feels normal again since the release. By that I mean: no more fixing or uploading new game versions, no more updating storefronts, just diving back into creating the story, posing renders, and cursing whenever Daz3D hangs or my VRAM fills up. You know, the stuff I enjoy 🙂
The scene I’m working on is a tough one. It’s a new environment, which means the lighting isn’t set up yet and I often have to re-render shots because I’m not quite happy with the results. There are up to five characters in the scene (see Preview here), so that’s a lot of posing and lighting. And since my VRAM can’t handle that many figures at once, I have to render most shots in two passes. (I talked about these VRAM issues in Behind the Scenes #4 (link), and I’m planning to do another BTS about the two-pass workflow, in case you’re into the technical side.)
And to top it off, it’s not exactly a “happy” scene. That adds a bit of emotional weight. It’s important for the story, but apparently I prefer writing happy or romantic moments 😋.
All in all, progress is slow. I’m still meeting the minimum weekly render quota I set for myself, but just barely. The upside: this should be the most technically challenging scene of the entire episode. I deliberately started with this one to get it out of the way. Once the hardest part is done, the rest should be a piece of cake, right? 💪
Take care, and see you next week!
